2024 Syllabus - Instrumental - School & Community Groups

A variety of opportunities have been designed at the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival, particularly to support school and community music groups. Some of these involve traditional Festival classes at our venues. Others allow you to have the adjudicator come to your location to provide similar experiences to your students, but in your own building.

It is the responsibility of every Competitor and/or Parent/Guardian and/or Teacher to ensure that they have read and complied with the current Syllabus and all the rules and regulations governing the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival.

Prior to registering, we invite you to read the FAQ's.

In classes where age limit is specified, competitors must be the prescribed age or under as of December 31st of the previous year and must state their age on the online registration form.

BRING THE ADJUDICATOR TO YOUR SCHOOL

These classes are designed to allow schools to bring a BKMF Adjudicator to them, saving the cost of bussing. The day or half-day can accommodate any combination of ensembles, solos, duets, chamber groups etc. as suits the needs of the school program. Please see the flyer below for more information:

School - Recorders

School recorder categories are designed to give an opportunity for students studying recorder to have an opportunity to perform and learn.

Solos, Duets and Trios are limited to one selection.

Ensembles may play up to 3 selections, within a 10 minute time limit. Contrasting selections are recommended, but you are welcome to choose whatever repertoire is appropriate for the level that your ensemble is currently at.

ADJUDICATION PLUS categories will be scheduled for a clinic with the adjudicator, immediately following their performance. This will allow them to stay on stage and have the adjudicator work directly with the musician or ensemble and actively explain the ideas they have for them, and for the musician or ensemble to work at incorporating them, under the direction and leadership of the adjudicator.

The focus of the Festival is on learning in a welcoming environment. Please come ready to share the joy of music making and to learn from our adjudicator who will meet your ensemble wherever they are currently at! We look forward to hearing you!
