2024 Syllabus - Voice

It is the responsibility of every Competitor and/or Parent/Guardian and/or Teacher to ensure that they have read and complied with the current Syllabus and all the rules and regulations governing the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival.

Prior to registering, we invite you to read the FAQ's.

In classes where age limit is specified, competitors must be the prescribed age or under as of December 31st of the previous year and must state their age on the online registration form.

Classical Voice Solo by Level - List A

Classical Voice – Conservatory Solo List A
Own choice. Any voice. Selection must be from List A of the current RCM or current Conservatory Canada syllabi. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

ADJUDICATION PLUS categories will include an opportunity for each competitor to return to the stage and work with the adjudicator 1:1 for 10-20 min (level dependent) to receive immediate feedback on incorporating some of the adjudicator's suggestions.

Classical Voice Solo by Level - List B

Classical Voice – Conservatory Solo List B
Own choice. Any voice. Selection must be from List B of the current RCM or current Conservatory Canada syllabi. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Level - Additional Repertoire

Classical Voice – Conservatory Solo - List Piece for a category already entered with a DIFFERENCE PIECE, but from the same list.
Own choice. Any voice. Selection must be from a list of the current RCM or current Conservatory Canada syllabi. This category is available to enter a second piece from the same list. ie. if a competitor has already entered the List A class with one List A piece, they may enter a second List A piece in this class. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - Canadian Composers

Any voice. Own choice originally written by a Canadian composer. Chosen selection must be a published original composition, not an arrangement of a traditional song. Original language must be used. Emphasis will be on diction, style, and interpretation. Competitors may enter this category multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry. Any voice. Own choice. Selection must be from a contemporary composer and does not need to be listed in the current RCM or CC syllabi. Competitors may enter this category multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - Folk Song

Any voice. Own choice. Traditional folk song repertoire, in any language, from the current RCM or CC syllabi. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - English Art Song

Any voice. Own choice from a standard repertoire of English language compositions. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - Foreign Language

Any voice. Own choice of repertoire from the current RCM or CC vocal syllabi and written in a language other than English. Original language must be used. Emphasis will be on diction, style, and interpretation. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - Oratorio

Any voice. Own choice. Perform an aria from any standard Oratorio, or a requiem, cantata, motet, or mass. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Solo by Age - Opera

Any voice. Own choice. Repertoire may be performed in any language. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Student Duets

Any voice. Own choice of repertoire, in any language, with any combination of voices. Competitors must enter the class according to the age of the oldest in the duet. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Student Trios

Any voice. Own choice of repertoire, in any language, with any combination of voices. Competitors must enter the class according to the age of the oldest in the trio. Competitors may enter these classes multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.

Classical Voice Student + Adult/Teacher

Any voice. Own choice. Duet is performed with teacher or an adult but only the student will receive an adjudication. Competitors may enter this category multiple times with repertoire that has not been previously performed in the Festival, but a separate registration is required for each entry.
